They are both microsoft only languages. You can do stuff like that in Firefox with JavaScript. Tell your teacher to teach you Python, it's easy, a lot of fun and you can actually use it. Unlike vbscript, which is pretty useless now. Nice blog, btw Firefox doesn’t support vbscript or activex.
